Studio Shpops 2018 Revisited
Studio Shpops got back into action this year with collaborations with artists from across the world. NONO - Uganda: In February, we welcomed NONO to Madrid - a Ugandan traditional folk band. Abraham Sekasi played Adungu and Ssewa Ssewa stepped in for Hakeem and brought his Janzi to Spain. The Janzi is an instrument that Ssewa Ssewa invented and crafted. You can find out more about it here.
The Ugandan duo played three gigs - Macanudo Espacio Arte, Centro Social La Brecha and Sala Bogui - and went down a storm. They also spent a morning in a school delivering a Ugandan folk music and dance workshop to local primary school students.
Luca Fiore - Italy / London: Later in the year we brought young singer-songwriter, Luca Fiore to Madrid. Luca Fiore is a very talented guitarist who won the London Big Busk competition and has since been recording, writing and touring. Luca christened Studio 24 in its first live music event and followed up with gigs in two more venues. He, again, was warmly received and we look forward to the next events with him.
WET - Madrid:
2019 will kick off with gigs from new band, WET. WET are a blues, soul trio formed in Madrid.
The Emigrants - Geneva:
We'll also welcome members of Geneva-based, The Emigrants, an Irish trad folk band.
