Studio Shpops were lucky enough to host a few gigs in Madrid for Luca Fiore as part of his European Tour 2019. On a tour that has taken him from the UK to France, Italy, The Netherlands and further afield, Madrid offered a more intimate experience. Squeezed in between the Dutch and French legs of the tour, we could only get our hands on Luca for 2 days and put on 3 shows.

Far from the stages of the O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire or the Sugar Factory in Amsterdam, our first gig on a Thursday evening took us to Studio 24, an art studio space a stone's throw from Plaza Mayor. The intimate pop-up venue, run by artist Phil Troutt, was the perfect start to Luca's Madrid concerts. Sat between make shift tables, pots, paints and brushes, against a backdrop of beautiful paintings, hand-crafted sculptures and quirky artefacts, Luca's hour-and-a-half set of originals and covers lulled the crowd into a relaxed state slipping further into their couches and chairs.

Friday was a double bill with a lunchtime gig in Malasaña's Macanudo Bar Espacio Arte and an evening at the Centro Social La Brecha in Vallecas.

The self-styled guitarist and sing-songwriter was well received by audiences, singing tunes in English, Spanish and Italian. His relaxed style coupled with his undeniable talent, musicianship and shredding ability made for a very impressive show. Luca uses a loop pedal and effects boxes to create a much bigger, fuller sound than you might expect from a solo artist. Between songs, he doesn't shy away from interacting with the audience describing the thought process behind some songs, telling anecdotes and jokes here and there. He involves the crowd in a couple of songs and stuns them with a finale involving tricks and a bit of showmanship. We were extremely lucky to have Luca Fiore over and look forward to catching him again soon.
